SSI Drysuit Diver

/@devon for real profilesCold-water and quarry specialist. Drysuit, deep & tech. Teaching the Three Rivers since 2014.
Devon learned to dive in a flooded Pennsylvania quarry in February, which is a strange way to fall in love with the ocean, but it stuck.
Two decades later, cold and low-vis is still where Devon is happiest. After eight years on staff at Steel City Scuba, Devon went independent in 2022 to teach the way that always made the most sense: small classes, a lot of water time, and zero rush to push a card across the counter.
The teaching style is patient and unglamorous. Skills get drilled until they're boring, because boring is what keeps you calm when a mask floods at 25 metres in a Bainbridge winter.
As an SSI Instructor Trainer, Devon also certifies the next generation of pros, with a particular focus on drysuit and cold-water teaching skills.
When not in a wetsuit, Devon is usually fixing somebody's regulator, leading the Lab's annual Bonaire trip, or trying (again) to get decent visibility footage out of the Three Rivers confluence.
Now taught by three other regional instructors as the standard cold-water track.
SSI IT rating. Has since mentored 6 new open-water instructors.
From first-time Open Water to Divemaster, with a 100% checkout pass record.
PGH Dive Labs’ flagship warm-water week. Eight years running, never lost a fin.

Devon never once made me feel rushed or stupid for being nervous about the night dive. By the checkout weekend I actually felt ready instead of just certified.
